FAQs

Yes. Equity, Civil Rights, and Title IX (ECRT) and PEAR support all faculty, staff, and learners at the Medical School and Michigan Medicine at the main medical center and offsite clinics.

Does the Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct policy cover patient and visitor misconduct?

Yes. The policy relates to patients and visitors as “third parties” and any member of our community can make a report to ECRT for this.

Does Title IX apply to academic medical centers?

Yes. In the case Doe vs. Mercy Catholic Medical Center, the courts decided that Title IX does apply to academic medical centers and covers all forms of medical education.

I am a faculty or staff member with direct or functional supervision of other faculty, staff, or learners. Am I required to make a report when someone discloses misconduct to me?

Yes. Your role as an “Individual with Reporting Obligations” (IRO) requires you to make a report to ECRT within 48 hours of becoming aware of any sexual or gender-based misconduct.

Am I required to tell my manager or faculty member before I let anyone else know?

No. The entire community can report directly to ECRT. You may also have a conversation with a confidential resource before you decide to reach out to ECRT.
